However, you can turn around and start the whole jumping through the rings thing as soon as you've seen the clip with Cortana going "I'm a thief, but I keep what I steal". When you reach that clip, you'll be past the third ring anyway so the whole area you need to jump around in is already behind you. From what I can tell, you do have to kill Truth first and you do have to fight the Flood as well.
